Digital Marketing VS Traditional Marketing

THE SCOPE OF IT

For decades, traditional marketing has only consisted of billboards, television and radio. However, with the birth of the internet, the transition to digital advertising using channels such as social media, email marketing and search engine optimization (SEO) has been inevitable.

The past couple years has seen an uptick in companies putting more and more resources into digital advertising. Now the question is, why?

THE METRICS

Simply put, this is because everything in digital advertising is measurable. All the emails sent out, the amount of people that view your social media pages and how many people visit your website, just to provide a few of the many examples.

As opposed to traditional advertising which does not produce exact numbers. For example, there is no way to truly measure how much reach your billboard drives to your business. Yes, you have the billboard on the interstate, but how many people have seen it? Did they read it? How long did they look at it? These questions we have no way of knowing with a traditional advertising billboard.

A/B TESTING

Adding onto the ability to measure. A/B testing in digital advertising is a tremendous tool companies can use. While running similar, yet different ads, companies can easily and efficiently pivot to the campaign that is working the best for them.

Compare that to say, a billboard where companies are locked into a campaign for at least four weeks. Now how would you be able to compare ads or even know if yours was indeed working? I think we can safely say, anyone would respond, yes to those questions.

EMAIL MARKETING/ SOCIAL MEDIA

In addition to everything being able to be measured in digital advertising, the cost can be minimal. The aforementioned channels of social media and email marketing provide the ability to utilize a small amount of resources and the cost can be minimal.

This allows you to dedicate more resources to other advertising channels. For example, A quarterly newsletter can be written by one individual and be sent to your entire customer base.

Furthermore, One of the advantages of social media is the reach a post or campaign can have. One simple post can easily reach thousands of people. What makes the reach of the post or campaign great is how one is able to target your audience.

What truly makes social media great is the engagement. There is no price for a brand’s ability to interact with their customers. Being able to solve concerns and have a normal dialogue makes your brand more relatable and humanizes it.

YOUR MOVE

Now the question comes down to, do you want your business to potentially be left behind? Do you want your competition to have a clear cut business advantage? Do you want to make the most out of your advertising budget?

The answer for nearly every company, should be an unequivocal yes. For the best way to be the most efficient way
